A True Advocate
Melissa Threet, sometimes referred to as "Missy" by those who have know her for years, was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she began exploring many different passions in life. She is an avid hiker, skier, horsewoman and sportswoman. She has participated in overseas programs such as the Good Apple Fellowship Recipient where she studied and toured primary schools in Sweden.
Melissa attended the University of New Mexico and purchased her first business during her freshman year, The Nob Hill Sun Shop eventually opening a second salon called The Sun Shop Too. During her 12 years owning and running the salons she was elected president of the Nob Hill Merchants’ Association.
Between 1984 and 1992 Melissa was also the Director of the Extended-Day Program at Manzano Day School. She eventually returned to Sweden in 1996 when she was selected as the only New Mexico member of a four-person Rotary International Group Study Exchange team representing the New Mexico-West Texas District.
Melissa then returned to college and in 1998 she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Public Administration from the College of Santa Fe. Since 1998, Melissa has been the Commercial Collections Manager at the law firm Martin E. Threet & Associates, which today is known as The Threet Law Firm. Through her work with the law firm, she has mentored, and continues to shape, the next generation of file clerks, legal assistants and paralegals.
Melissa has always assisted those in need, whether a stray animal, a child, a friend, colleague or neighbor. It is for this reason that she chose to become an Accredited Disability Representative, taking the EDPNA exam in 2019 and receiving high marks during the first attempt. Melissa continues to develop her value system through advocacy of those needing assistance with their Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) cases.
